It has been none to have to shoot a halibut with a shot gun to put them done. They are extremely strong and if one hits you in the wrong spot you can become badly injured. The battle is definitely worth it, the amount of meat that comes from a halibut can be massive and don’t forget if you cook it rite it tastes great.

Travis Wilcox. He took us to one of his hottest spots for the season. Upon arrival, the captain dropped anchor and we started our lines to the bottom, 300 feet down. It took a while before the halibut started feeding. We did however land a nice red snapper first and then the halibut fishing started to pick up. By the time the tide changed we where really getting some nice 30 to 40 pounders.

On August 25, 2007 we left Bar Harbor, Ketchikan, Alaska. It was 5 am and Captain Travis Wilcox untied the Ann Marie from her slip. As we slowly passed through the breakwater, we watched 50 bald eagles catching their breakfast and teaching there young how to do the same. Within minutes we where up to full speed and heading for the halibut fishing grounds. Through many days of research, we have come to realize that alaskan halibut fishing is quickly turning into one of the most popular sports in the state. A couple hours into our journey, we stopped and dropped anchor to begin our alaskan halibut fishing day.
